25 Things That I Noticed About Korean Dramas
I started watching Korean dramas about 6 or 7 years ago.Throughout the years, I noticed many similarities between them. They all became kind of predictable and yet I still kept on watching them. (Weird, right? But whatever).
Here are the 25 things that I noticed about Korean Dramas:
(They are in no particular order)
3. Attractive males reflecting things in life while taking a shower. These kinds of scenes always made me laugh because I knew the real purpose behind them. :P
4. The term "oppa" is used A LOT. Like seriously... A lot. I actually kind of like the word. OPPAAAA!!!~
5. Someone is always running away from somebody. Instead of catching the bus or train, they choose to run. I think I lost count on how many times Rain had to run away from Lee Jung-Jin in The Fugitive: Plan B.
9. Everyone has the same smartphone but in a different color or style. Sometimes I felt like I was watching a short smartphone commercial.
10. Someone always challenges another person as a way of getting revenge or getting something in return.
17. There's usually something supernatural going on. For example, the male just found out his girlfriend is a fox. OR a male and a female were a couple in the past life, but something went wrong. Then suddenly they met again a gazillion years later. OR a curse caused two people to switch their bodies.
20. Instead of talking about personal things at each other's houses, they choose to do that at a coffee shop or restaurant. Most of the time the conversation includes yelling or cute nonsense or someone spilling a drink at another person in anger.
23. Everyone shows cute expressions or overly excessive emotional feelings. For instance, when they are frustrated or confused they scratch their heads and/or pout their lips.
25. There's always an awkward kissing scene. The couples barely move their heads. They just stand there without moving. Kissing with your eyes open is perfectly normal... NOT.

Some of these things are kind of corny and yet many people still like Korean dramas.
So....
What makes them so interesting and popular?
I think it has a lot to do with things that individuals fantasize about. Korean dramas show ideal characters who are rich, proper, and attractive. These kinds of traits are things that most people wish to have in reality. The dramas also show ideal events that don't really happen in real life. (And should not be completely expected in real life).
Now, I don't have much time to watch dramas. In the past, I mainly watched them because they were eye candy for me and because of the tension and anticipation that each episode brought. Each episode had dramatic endings and over-the-top emotional scenes that made me want to keep watching. I have to admit though, I had to stop watching a couple of dramas because of specific characters. Some of the evil characters made me soooo angry at them that I just couldn't take it anymore. I felt like I wanted to punch my computer. Hahah.
How do you feel about Korean dramas? What makes them so awful? What makes them so awesome?
