Sometimes when I talk to a man, it feels like I'm talking to a wall. I always thought ...WHY DO MEN NOT LISTEN??!! It's like they are in their own little world!!!
Now I think this kind of connects with private and public talking.
I think that some women tend to speak more in private instead of public because they are afraid of saying something stupid or they think that their talking might sound too annoying in public. (I feel like that sometimes. I get afraid to speak in public. I feel more comfortable with talking to a close friend or family member in private. I'm actually slowly trying to conquer my fear). So women want to do all the talking in private. Women also like to tell secrets about other people and about other people's problems because that makes them feel better.
Some men tend to speak more in public than in private. It's like they want to make sure that the people in the workplace or in other public places will know them and respect them. Then, they come home and have nothing to talk about. Later, the wife or girlfriend wants to talk and tell stories. However, the man doesn't feel like listening or talking because he feels like he has already done his DEED.
When a man and woman go out together to hangout with friends, the man has so many amusing stories to talk about, but he doesn't tell stories privately to his wife or girlfriend because he feels like she already knows everything.
When a woman tells a man that something bothers her, the man sometimes ignores that because he feels like that will make him feel weaker. (Lower status thing)
I think that many of these characteristics start during childhood. Girls..they learn to tell secrets and stories to a best friend and they learn trust. Boys...they have "best buddies" in groups and they learn how to be loyal to society.
I'm not really trying to stereotype men and women. I'm just expressing my thoughts and opinions through my experiences.
