HAPPY 4TH OF JULY! (Fruit-Tart Flag Recipe)

Yeah I know this is kind of late to say. I was a little busy on the fourth and fifth of July. Fourth of July, my friend and her boyfriend moved to a new house so I helped them move and carry things. Next, I went to the store to buy ingredients for a Fourth of July dessert that I made later on that day. Then late at night, I helped my mom in her baking. On the fifth, I spent time with family. The reason why I made the dessert on the fourth instead of the third was because I was afraid that it was going to become soggy by july 5th. It eventually did become soggy but it was still delicious though.

Blah blah blah blah....lol

Sometimes I HATE grocery shopping because it's tough to find some things and it's time consuming.

I had a problem finding fillo cups and mascarpone cheese for the dessert recipe. I asked a couple of Super Walmart workers about them and they were clueless about it. The fifth last worker finally helped me find the fillo cups. I found the cheese on my own.

The store didn't have whipped cream (Wtf Walmart?!!! I thought you had everything!! Especially since it's SUPER Walmart). However, I later found cool whip soooo yay, but still..since Walmart claims to be like the everything store then it should have everything xD.

Good thing I didn't have to buy all of the ingredients because I already had some of them at home.

NOW, I did not create this recipe. I got it off the Food Network site. The directions and ingredients are not very detailed on the site so this post explains a little bit more in detail.

This is how it looked on the site:

This is how mine looked:

Erm. Close enough. I guess you can say mine looked more ummm...realistic? Haha.

FRUIT TART FLAG RECIPE
You'll need:
- about 45-48 mini fillo cups or mini tarts (I used Athens mini fillo shells)
- 8 oz. container of mascarpone cheese (I used the Belgiosio brand)
- 3 tablespoons of confectioner's sugar (aka powdered sugar)
- 1/2 cup of whipped cream (or cool whip in my case)
- strawberries
- blueberries

Directions:
1. Make the mascarpone cream. Beat mascarpone cheese and confectioner's sugar in a bowl with a mixer. Then add the whipped cream and gently mix with a spoon until smooth.
2. Put the cream into the tarts or fillo cups. (I used the tip of a thin cake spatula to place the cream neatly into the fillo cups. I think a frosting pen or pastry bag would also work.)
3. Slice the strawberries into halves.
4. Add the blueberries and strawberries on top of the cream-filled cups.

And that's it!!

Comments:
My family loved this DELICIOUS dessert. It was ADDICTING.

What's cool about this recipe is that it's easy to make and it doesn't only have to be for Fourth of July. You can obviously be creative with the cream and add different types of fruits.

This was the first time I used mascarpone cheese. It didn't have that slightly salty taste like other cheeses. It was a littttle tiny bit sweet. Naturally sweet.

The fillo cups were hard and crispy at first, but they became soggy a day after I took them out of the fridge. Maybe the dessert would have tasted better if I made on the day I met with family or if I used tarts instead.

My plate was only able to fit 45 cups and I almost ran out of the cream! Maybe I should have added more cool whip.

If you have any suggestions, comments, questions then feel free to leave a message.

Bon appétit!
